Talk about the rock music that you love here!| 'Must' Listening.'Flathead' by 'The Fratellis'. | | A 'must' track to lend an ear to for all you die-hard Indie Rock lot.The 'Flathead' is the catchy track of the Glasgow(UK)based band 'The Fratellis'(Jon Fratelli,Mince Fratelli,Barry Fratelli)from their 2006 debut album "Costello Music". The song was chosen by Apple Corp. to be the soundtrack for their latest iPod TV spots. We all know, anything associated with Apple is always a surefire gold; "Flathead" the song that virtually no one had heard previously (from a band no one had heard of before)is now getting regular airtime on mainstream radio.I am listening to it on http://www.xfm.co.uk

| | Who is your favorite indie rock artist? | | Many acts that, by choice or fate, remained outside the commercial mainstream became part of the indie rock movement. Indie rock acts placed a premium on maintaining complete control of their music and careers, often releasing albums on their own independent record labels and relying on touring, word-of-mouth, and airplay on independent or college radio stations for promotion. Linked by an ethos more than a musical approach, the indie rock movement encompasses a wide range of styles, from hard-edged, grunge influenced bands like Superchunk to do-it-yourself experimental bands like Pavement to punk-folk singers such as Ani DiFranco.
Currently, many countries have an extensive local indie scene, flourishing with bands with much less popularity than commercial bands, just enough of it to survive inside the respective country, but virtually unknown outside them.--wikipedia
The Killers is my favorite. How bout you? | |

| | recommendation - casa canting (bar section of casa nueva) | | I had the opportunity to catch a show at the cantina of Casa Nueva, located on the campus of Ohio University in charming Athens, Ohio. I saw 3 bands - Thistle, an emo band whose name currently escapes me, and Earwig, who currently has a hit single on the local radio station in Columbus. The show was fine if not too memorable. The memorable part for me was the venue - Casa Cantina, directly adjacent to Casa Nueva. It's a beautiful bar, obviously well cared for by its owners, a co-op of workers. If you get a chance to visit, I highly recommend it. When you do, be sure to check out the interesting masonry work, the doorway leading to the restuarant (Casa Nueva) in particular. There are also sections of the hardwood floor that are interesting - some portions are patched together like a wooden quilt. Artwork hangs on all the walls - I particularly liked the carving of the woman blending into a tree. Check it out sometime; Casa Cantina is a great place to catch a show or just hang out. www.casanueva.com | |
