| Wow This Kid Is Great. Is He The Future Elton John or Billy Joel? | | Last night I was introduced to a Youtube video of a 12 year old named Greyson Chance where he performs at his Sixth Grade Festival his rendition of Lady Gaga's Paparazzi. the video is one of those rapid fire ones that has gotten a lot of attention and has over 9 MILLION hits to it. His talent hasn't gone unnoticed, and only today, May 13th, he appeared on the Ellen DeGeneres Show and even got to speak to Lady Gaga on the phone while on the show.This kid is unbelievable. I asked them about their favorite artists were and they actually mentioned Def Lepard, Bon Jovi and Billy Joel! | | I made a Billy Joel Likeness years ago ....Should I send it? What would you do? | | This may sound really silly for several reasons. One because I really don't get into "celebrity" because I get highly frustrated at what celebrities bring to our culture. The other is because it is a puppet... here I go anyway.
In college in the early nineties I studied art and had to do an individual practicum in puppet making. I spent the semester making various styles of puppets and yes, I loved it. My last puppet of the practicum was a marionette. It was in the early nineties and "Stormfront" was out. So I decided it would be cool to make a marionette that was the likeness of Billy Joel. I sculpted the head... receding hairline and all... even made black Ray Ban sunglasses (remember those?) and finished it with a pair of jeans and a black shirt with the storm front flag symbol on it. ...
I was pretty proud of it at the time... Later I thought that maybe he would appreciate it. Billy Joel, that is. But then I thought he might find it to be kind of weird and useless... I just kind of thought that he might toss it and all of the work would be out the window. What do you think? It sits in my parents basement all these years later.... Should I have sent it years ago? I thought it was a great little love song. We couldn't find the music so we had a bar singer(his first time singing in a church) who couldn't read music anyway listen to it and he nailed it perfectly. It was beautiful! People thought he had written it for us....
There are so many songs that I have felt the lyrics were so incredibly thoughtful... lyrics like:Well, its been quite a while since i lifted my head
