There are many options that you have when it comes to a computer monitor. If you are like most people who are getting monitors, you will go for the more mainstream and value-oriented option: a nice 1080p monitor that has a refresh rate of 60 Hz. Make sure your monitor has either a HDMI or DVI connection. And if you care about getting sound through the monitor, make sure it has speakers. This will make it easier for you, as you will not have to buy speakers separately. But what other types of monitors can you get?
These days, the 1440p monitors have become a lot more popular. They are a little bit more expensive than 1080p, but they are still mainstream enough in terms of the price that you can afford one without a problem. The increased resolution is really nice, both for playing games and performing general tasks on the computer. If you go with 1440p, a 27-inch screen is recommended. It will give you the same type of clarity and experience you get from a 23 or 24-inch 1080p monitor. There are some great models you can get for less than $300.
The third option you have is to care more about the refresh rate of the monitor, as opposed to the resolution. We will go back to the 1080p resolution, but we are getting a monitor that has a refresh rate of 144 Hz. Having the increased refresh rate means you can now play games at up to 120 FPS, which is double the 60 FPS you can get with the regular monitors we discussed in the first paragraph. So if you are a gamer and getting the max frames per second from your game is what matters, go with these monitors. Now if you really have money, you can go with 1440p and a 144Hz refresh rate.
